Why Does it Cost So Much to Use a Gestational Carrier?

We are often asked what is the estimated costs for using a Gestational Carrier.  There are so many different scenarios to this option that it does create some confusion on when it comes to figuring and planning for all the costs associated  with everything.  We tell our Recipients that if you are thinking about this option.  A true figure to set aside is $100,000.  Sometimes the process, depending what all is involved and needed can be alittle higher and sometimes much lower.

Here is a breakdown of some of the individual costs in the Ohio area.

Gestational Carrier compensation: $24,000 to $28,000 (negotiated and can be 2-3 K higher with multiples)

Attorney fees: recipient attorney: $5-6,000 Attorney for surrogate: $1500

Medical fertility care (dependent on fertility center) $15-20K

Use of an egg donor: $10,000

Maternity clothing, co-pays, life insurance premium: $1,500 to $2,000

Agency fees: $15K -25K (depending on the individual agency fee)

*If the carrier has medical insurance but her policy excludes surrogacy, the cost can increase by $25-$35K.

Once you are matched with a carrier, the fees are negotiated for the “compensation to carry” as well as other incidentals such as maternity clothing, any travel, lost wages, etc. ALL costs and fees are outlined in a legal agreement BEFORE the cycle will even begin at the fertility center.

It does take a lot of different people to make this option go smoothly and it can be costly, but using a heathly Gestational Carrier can definitley lead to a success outcome of having a child and building a family.
