Why Do Women Become Gestational Carriers

The article below in the Huffington Post struck a cord with me.  While there is financial compensation to being a Gestational Carrier, it surely isn’t the motivating factor that makes a woman decide to do this for another person or couple.  In Ohio, the average compensation is $22,000 to carry a baby or babies for another person.  This is not big bucks!  A Gestational Carrier gives up her body and her normal life as she knows it for 10-12 months to give another person/family the opportunity to be a parent.  This is a selfless act and one that should be held in the highest of respect.  The women we have had go through our program have done this not for the compensation, but for the opportunity to give someone else what they have been so fortunate and blessed to have been able to do on their own.  The reason why most women decide to become a Gestation Carrier is  usually because they have loved being pregnant and have a unique personality that allows them to do this for another person and be a true “Carrier” for another person.  If you happen to meet a women that is acting as a Gestational Carrier, don’t ask her about how much money she is making, thank her for the selfless act she is providing for another person/family and affirm her for her time and efforts!
